Me and My Experience

Currently I’m a freshman at Duke University. Before college, I never knew much about wellness and how important it is in life. I always considered myself stress-free and my friends were always jealous of my ability to just “let-go”. However, coming to college things weren’t so easy, and I started partaking in wellness practices to try and improve my life. And things weren’t easy at first.

  • While meditating, I felt silly like I was wasting time
  • Doing wellness activities, I could never stop my mind from wondering off and could never focus
  • I felt no different and was more frustrated than anything else

However, I decided to keep going at it and not giving up for a little longer. Mindfulness activities were still the hardest, however, I realized there were other activities that I could do in order to supplement silent meditations.

  • Nature Walks and Drumming was great for me as it was interactive and I could just lose myself to the sounds around me
  • Body Scans and Food meditations were the hardest, as I couldn’t completely let-go and my mind would always drift off despite my best efforts

Now, I still am not the best, however, I have improved and can do many more silent meditations without losing focus and actually feeling better afterwards.

So why should you listen to me? Well, I provide a different perspective than many other expert blogs and have recently been in your position and understand exactly how you feel. So I hope you gain something from this and wish you luck on your wellness journey.
